Valentine’s Day Activities: Part One

Happy Friday Everyone!  It’s almost Valentine’s Day, which means love is in the air!  It can be difficult for us parents to celebrate Valentine’s Day since all we want is a nice date night with our significant other, have fun (since it will be like dating), and quiet…am I right??  However, if anyone is like me as a parent, I also don’t want my daughter to feel left out of the holiday spirit and I want to her that she is loved as well.  So, how do you mix the two??  You just make it work!

I will be talking about this in two parts and part one will be the kid’s edition.  This is not a DIY or anything, but it is a simple talk about what type of activities that us parents can do with our kids.  How fun right??  Now, I start doing Valentine’s Day activities with my daughter about a week before so that way she understands that a holiday is coming up and she is not left out.  I start by doing craft activities with her such as coloring or drawing hearts, Valentine’s Day cards to family or to Daddy, etc.  It is simple and fun.  The other things I do with her is reading Valentine’s Day books with her, making heart pancakes, etc.

It is STILL Winter here and STILL so cold, so we can’t be outside for extended periods of time, so here are some activities that you can do (this is for parents who can go inside or outside):

  • You can take your kids to the park, the zoo, or the aquarium. Pretty much take them to their favorite spot.
  • You can help them craft something to give to Mommy or Daddy or to themselves.
  • Make a Mommy and Daughter date night, or Daddy and Daughter date night, or Mommy and Son, or Daddy and Son. I have done this before with my daughter and we had a blast.  Recently, my husband took her to the Home Depot Kids Workshop for a Daddy and Daughter day date where they got to build a mini Valentine’s cornhole game.  It was so sweet!  Plus, I got an hour to myself!  Yay!

See, there are plenty of things you can do and the best part about all of this is that most to everything is FREE to do!  So, that’s a win-win in my book!  I know this year we have already been doing crafts and after the husband and I have our date night, we will be taking our daughter to one of her favorite spots: to see the dinosaurs at the Living Museum!

What are your favorite things to do with your child for Valentine’s Day??  Let me know in the comment section.  As always, I hope you enjoy and to be continued in part two….
