DIY Snow

Happy Holidays!  I hope that you are having a wonderful week and keeping warm in this wintry weather!  When I was starting to integrate the winter season for my daughters homeschool lesson, I started doing some research for science experiments.  I saw a lot of snow making experiments on Pinterest and decided to do our own.  This is quite easy and cheap to make plus it is a lot of fun to make with your kids.  This is like a lot of other Pinterest recipes for snow, but everything and everyone does it differently.  I will also be putting the recipe further down on this post.

So, the first thing you do is to find a container.  I used a small rectangle shaped container that I used to store some small crafts.  Second, you need to put Baking Soda in the container and put it in the refrigerator for a little bit to get it cold.  I put about 2 cups of Baking Soda in the container, which is about one small box.  You can find Baking Soda anywhere like the Dollar Tree, but it was on sale at Kroger for $0.89.  I also put the container in the refrigerator for about 10-20 minutes.  After it gets cold, you spray about 2 cups of Shaving Cream into the Baking Soda.  You can also find Shaving Cream anywhere like the Dollar Tree, but again Kroger had it on sale for $1.oo.  I used the brand Barbasol because it was the cheapest ha-ha (got to save that money, right?).  Anyways, you just spray 2 cups in, then the fun part begins…. you mix everything together with your hands.

This is so fun to do with your kids or to watch them mixing the snow together.  It is cold, so they might not like it.  However, once you or your kids start mixing (it should take no more than 10 minutes), you or they will start to see it turning into snow.  My daughter had a blast and she played for almost 2 hours just playing around making snowmen, snowflakes, and snow volcanoes.  I am glad that I did this experiment because it was something that my daughter can do plus it was a fun way to teach her about the upcoming wintry season.  Well, that’s all I have for this post and I sure hope that you share some feedback or pictures of you and your little ones making snow!  I hope you are having a great Holiday and have a Happy New Year!  I will see you in the next post!

DIY Snow

Ingredients:

1 small box of Baking Soda (I used Kroger brand)

1 can of Shaving Cream (I used Barbasol)

1 container

Directions:

  1. You pour about 2 cups, or 1 small box, of Baking Soda into a container, then you put the container in the refrigerator for about 10-20 minutes to get it cold. For me, it took about 10 minutes.
  2. Then, once the container filled with Baking Soda is cold, you spray about 2 cups of Shaving Cream into the container. Keep in mind that you always need to pour the equivalent amount of Baking Soda and Shaving Cream when making snow.
  3. You start mixing everything together with your hands and then no more than 10 minutes later, you should have snow. You can mix it to the consistency you like, but you always need to look for the consistency of making molds such as snow balls.
  4. There you have it, some snow and endless entertainment for kids!
